Heritage Centers
A system of county-based heritage centres in Ireland serves
people interested in genealogy and family history. Each centre indexes and
computerizes records of a particular county, although some centres only cover
part of a county, and other centres may cover two counties. The staff of these
centres will search their databases for a fee. If you know what county in
Ireland your ancestors came from, one of the best ways of finding a more
specific origin may be to write to one of these heritage centres.
You can find current addresses and information about the individual heritage
centres below. Each county in Ireland is now covered by at least one heritage
centre, although the centres indexing Dublin City and the section of County Cork
around Cork City are not yet open for searches. Several centres (Carlow, Kerry,
Limerick, and Tipperary North) are temporarily closed.
The extend of indexing and services offered varies among the heritage centres.
Each centre has indexed at least some church records. Some have also indexed
tombstone inscriptions, tax records, civil registration, census records,
newspapers, passenger lists, and other types of records.

http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/search.cfm. This index includes partial data
from a number of the heritage centres. You can search the index to see if there
may be a record of your ancestor in a particular county. Then, you can contact
the appropriate heritage centre for more complete information.
